Bidil, as the greatest mystical poet of Islamic and humanistic knowledge, has long been celebrated among poets, intellectuals, scholars, political figures, and the general public in Afghanistan. The present study aims to elucidate the development and flourishing of Bidil studies within Afghanistan’s academic system, to introduce key scholars in the field, and to review its achievements. The Chair of Bidil Studies was established at the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan in 1961 CE (1340 AH). Malek-ol-Sho‘ara Abdul Haq Betab, the founder of this chair at Kabul University, initially prepared a teaching booklet for students. Shortly thereafter, the Afghan government (1962–1965 CE / 1341–1344 AH), recognizing the cultural significance of Bidil’s literary stature and with the support of intellectuals, decided to form a committee to review and publish the Kulliyat (Collected Works) of Bidil. Through the efforts of this committee, Bidil’s Kulliyat was printed in Kabul. Bidil’s discourse, passing from popular gatherings and scholarly writings into formal academic curricula and official circles, paved the way for the production of research articles, theses, and dissertations. Over the years, numerous valuable studies have been conducted, each contributing significantly to the reappraisal of Bidil’s position and the enduring importance of his poetry in Persian literature.
