The body is the central signifier of romantic events in Shamloo’s poems. The body object leads us to Shamloo’s mental schemas about love. After extracting metaphors of love throughout his works, we have determined four periods of his poetry. While conceptually overlapping, these periods indicate ruptures and turns in his romantic mindset. The distinctive feature of this article is its focus on the metaphors of the body, and the periodization of his artistic life is also based on this. The first Shamlou does not have a tendency towards physical love, the second Shamlou tries to create a balance between physical love and socio-political ideas. His movement in this stage is from a traditional romantic mentality to a modern romantic mentality. The third Shamlu seeks to combine the two aspects of romanticism and political poetry, and finally we reach the fourth Shamlu, which struggles in the struggle between love and death. This struggle continues in his mind and language until the last days of his existence and writing.
